1. “Bonse Aba”
2. “Lightning!”
3. “Kyrie”
4. “Sing a Mighty Song!”
5. “Tatkovina”

It is a challenge to learn one new language; and this year, we are learning three!! Keep up the good work!!
IN THE CLASSROOM: We have completed our second study of composers. Sixth grade classes have studied Strauss and J.S. Bach, while the fifth graders have studied Liszt and Rossini.
This week, half of the music classes will learn an African rhythm stick game called, “Siyahumba.” The other half will have music sheets that we will work on.

FRIDAY CHOIR WENT CAROLING WITH BRAVO CLUB!!! We had a blast with 50 students walking to the Willard Care Center Nursing Home and singing holiday carols to the wonderful patients and staff. After our brisk walk back to the school, we enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies. A special thank you to Mrs. Atkinson for helping me that afternoon.

5/6 Friday choir– We are off to a great start with our WIS Friday choir!! We meet every Friday morning from 7:30-8:20am in the music room. We currently have 48 members and I appreciate those students making the commitment to be here every Friday morning.
We will sing at our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly held here at the school. I also plan to go holiday carolling at our local nursing home. Notes will be going home this month with details.
6TH GRADE HONOR CHOIR AUDITIONS– The week of Parent/Teacher Conferences, October 24-27 is when I will be having auditions for WIS 6th graders who want to be a part of a small group that will rehearse December 15- February 4. This is only a small group of 16 students that will meet with me for eight weeks to prepare for a large concert in Springfield. If you are interested, please get a detailed letter from the music room.
MUSIC CLASSES– Since the first day of school, all music classes have been drumming, working on rhythms, and studied a famous composer. Keep up the good work!!

HERE’S TO ANOTHER GREAT YEAR AT WIS!!!
I wish you health, happiness, and a fun-filled summer!!! Thank you for a successful
2010-2011 school year in the music room. It is always difficult to see another year
of sixth graders move on up to the middle school, but I know they are ready and excited
to start a new journey. I enjoyed meeting some students from Willard South who will
be at WIS next year. I will see everyone at Meet the Teacher Night in August and we will
begin Friday choir practices then. I will have a full report of my New York trip and singing
at Carnegie Hall!!
